The high court announced the decision Thursday. The fine is in connection with Herridge, a veteran investigative reporter, being held in civil contempt as part of a lawsuit that scientist Yanping Chen filed against the U.S. government over the leak, according to the Associated Press. The stories were published by Fox in 2017 and examined Chen’s ties to the Chinese military and raised questions about whether she was using a professional school she founded in Virginia to help the Chinese government get information about American military members. LA Property Owners Send A Message To The City: No Confidence (Calif Post) — Los Angeles property owners have rejected new streetlight fees in a special vote – by an 80-20 margin. It is a massive vote of no confidence in the City Council. The council had asked property owners to approve a special assessment to cover the rising cost of maintaining streetlights, many of which have been damaged by copper thieves. The council also wanted to install solar streetlights in an effort to meet its “green” goals. One might have expected the assessment to pass, just as a sales tax passed in LA County last month. Instead – total rejection. Granted, the vote – a special election under Proposition 2018 – was limited to property owners. And the more your property was worth, the more your vote was weighted. If you don’t like my opinion, cool, but you’re not going to change it.” “Call me short, post records from 20 years ago, threaten the health dept, use homophobic slurs. Check Your AC: 13,000 Units Recalled Over Fire Risk (Fox Business) — More than 13,000 air conditioning units were recalled for posing fire and burn hazards, as Americans attempt to stay cool during a heatwave for the Fourth of July weekend. Texas-based Daikin Comfort Technologies Manufacturing, Inc. issued the recall last week for about 13,514 Amana Window-Room-Air-Conditioners and Through the Wall air conditioners or heat pumps sold nationwide, as well as about 53 that were sold in Canada. "The heating element can remain energized during a ground fault, despite being turned off, posing a risk of fire or burn injury to consumers," the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said. No injuries have been reported thus far in connection with the products, but the company received one report of plastic on the unit melting. Footage Shows Army Vet Fatally Shot Over A Parking Spot, Woman Claims Self Defense (Amer Wire News) -- An unarmed 62-year-old Army veteran was gunned down in Florida by a woman arguing over a parking spot at a local Walmart. Bart Diguglielmo was fatally shot Tuesday in a North Lauderdale Walmart parking lot, during what was reported to be a confrontation over a parking space, according to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office. The shooting was captured on camera -- Diguglielmo can be seen walking toward the black woman, who raised her arm after a brief standoff and fired a single shot into his abdomen: “The woman remained at the scene, cooperated with detectives and told investigators she fired in self-defense,” Fox News reported, citing the BCSO. Dianne Curry Peck, 59, appeared in court on Tuesday, where she pleaded not guilty to a murder charge in connection with the death of her son, who became known as "Baby Boy Doe" of Mansfield, Massachusetts. "Few cases are more heartbreaking than one involving a newborn baby, allegedly abandoned and left to die in the woods by his mother, deprived of the care, love and protection every child deserves," FBI Boston Special Agent-in-Charge Ted Docks said outside the courthouse. "For 41 years, this child was known simply as Baby Boy Doe. He entered this world with limitless promise, but was denied the most basic right to live." The newborn's body was discovered on Jan. 26, 1985, by a father and son who noticed a set of footprints in the snow. FDA Upgrades Salmonella Recall Of Popular Potato Chip To Highest Risk Level (Just the News) — The Food and Drug Administration upgraded a recall of some Utz Quality Foods potato chips to the agency's highest classification risk over a reasonable possibility of salmonella contamination. Utz voluntarily recalled certain Zapp's and Dirty brand potato chips that were sold nationwide in May, Fox News reported. The products were recalled after the company discovered that a seasoning ingredient used during production contained dry milk powder that could potentially be contaminated with salmonella. The FDA issues a Class I recall when there is a reasonable probability that using or being exposed to a product will cause serious adverse health consequences or death. See full story	Bull Rider, 25, Hospitalized After Being Trampled By Bovine At NYC Rodeo Event: Wild Video (NY Post) — A wild video captured a bull rider being thrown from a feisty bovine and trampled in front of a stunned audience during a rodeo event in the Bronx on Sunday. A 25-year-old man was injured when he was bucked off the wild animal during a sanctioned rodeo event on Bruner Avenue in Baychester, according to the NYPD. Video obtained by The Post showed the man appear to go unconscious while still atop the rowdy bull after possibly striking his head. The daredevil’s hat goes flying off his head as he’s tossed around – limp arms flailing – like a ragdoll by the powerful bull, the clip shows. Late Wednesday, a spokesperson for House Speaker Emanuel "Chris" Welch released a statement that the investigation, conducted by the Legislative Inspector General, had concluded into Rep. Harry Benton, D-Plainfield. “The Legislative Inspector General's findings reveal clear patterns of conduct by Representative Benton that are outrageous, unethical, and unbecoming of a member of the Illinois House of Representatives. “At my direction, Representative Benton had already been removed from the House Democratic Caucus and stripped of all support from the Speaker’s Office. Effective immediately, and at the recommendation of the Inspector General, those actions will remain in place permanently,” according to the statement. The statement from Welch’s office also said that Benton was being asked to resign, or he’ll be removed. “Today, I spoke directly with Representative Benton and called for his immediate resignation from the Illinois House of Representatives. “If he does not resign, we will initiate the process of expelling him from the House,” the statement said.
