Duffy Warns States To Enforce English Proficiency Requirements For Truckers

(Center Square) — California, New Mexico and Washington could risk losing federal funding if they fail to enforce English language proficiency (ELP) requirements for commercial motor vehicle drivers, U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said Tuesday.

The move comes on the heels of an Aug. 12 deadly Florida Turnpike crash involving an 18-wheeler making an unauthorized U-turn. The driver, Harjinder Singh, failed an ELP assessment during an interview with the Federal Motor Carrier Administration following the accident. Singh missed 10 of 12 verbal questions on the proficiency test and was only able to correctly identify one of four traffic signs, according to officials.

During a Tuesday morning news conference, Duffy said the DOT is giving the three states 30 days to comply before withholding “up to 100% of funding” from the Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program.

“States don’t get to pick and choose which federal safety rules to follow,” said Duffy. “As we saw with the horrific Florida crash that killed three, when states fail to enforce the law, they put the driving public in danger. Under President Trump’s leadership, we are taking aggressive action to close these safety gaps, hold states accountable, and make sure every commercial driver on the road is qualified to operate a 40-ton vehicle.”

Rep. Bryan Steil Calls For An End To
Universal Mail-In Voting Before Midterm Elections

(Just the News) — Congressman Bryan Steil, R-Wis., on Monday called for universal mail-in voting to end before the 2026 midterm elections.

"I think there's a few things that we should be able to get in place before the next election," Steil said on the "Just the News, No Noise" TV show. "One is making sure that we end what they call universal mail-in voting, which means if you're on the voter rolls, you get a live ballot regardless of whether or not you've requested it."

He said that universal mail-in voting has been a problem because many jurisdictions don't clean up their voter rolls.

"That's very true, even in our nation's capital, in Washington, D.C., where they've done an abysmal job of cleaning up the voter rolls, but then mail out a live ballot to everyone on those voter rolls, even though they're not cleaned up.," Steil said

Earlier this month, President Donald Trump announced via TRUTH Social that he would lead a movement to get rid of mail-in-ballots and voting machines due to fraud and corruption.

Steil said that another issue that needs to be solved before the midterms is having all ballots being in by the time the polls close.

Federal Appeals Court Says Pennsylvania Ballot
Date Requirement Violates Constitution

(Epoch Times) — Pennsylvania’s requirement that election officials reject ballots with missing dates violates the U.S. Constitution, a federal appeals court ruled on Aug. 26.

The requirement burdens the constitutional right to vote, and state officials have not provided enough evidence supporting their argument that state interests outweigh that burden, a unanimous panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit said.

“While the Commonwealth has raised legitimate interests related to voting, we see only tangential links, at best, between these interests and the date requirement that Pennsylvania imposes on mail-in voters. The date requirement does not play a role in election administration, nor does it contribute an added measure of solemnity beyond that created by a signature. And only in the exceedingly rare circumstance does it contribute to the prosecution of voter fraud,” Circuit Judge D. Brooks Smith said in the 55-page ruling.

Trump Goes On Attack Over
Digital Services Taxes, Threatens Tariffs

(Center Square) — President Donald Trump broadly attacked other nations' plans for a digital services tax, which he said were designed to harm U.S. companies while giving others a pass.

Trump earlier this year killed Canada's plans to implement a digital services tax, but the president has made clear he doesn't want to see similar taxes pop up elsewhere, threatening to respond with U.S. tariffs if countries impose the tax unilaterally.

Trump said the taxes were a direct threat to U.S. tech firms.

"As the President of the United States, I will stand up to Countries that attack our incredible American Tech Companies. Digital Taxes, Digital Services Legislation, and Digital Markets Regulations are all designed to harm, or discriminate against, American Technology. They also, outrageously, give a complete pass to China's largest Tech Companies. This must end, and end NOW!" the president wrote on Truth Social, his social media platform.

Trump Administration To Take Over
DC's Union Station

(Just the News) — The Trump administration is planning to take over Washington, D.C.'s Union Station, the Transportation Department said on Wednesday.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy confirmed in a statement that DOT was renegotiating a cooperative agreement with Union Station Redevelopment Corporation, which controls the station, and Amtrak, Reuters reported. The formal action confirming the department's renewed control of Union Station is expected in September, he added.

The Trump administration's plan to take control of Union Station comes after the president deployed National Guardsmen to the capital and took over the Metropolitan Police Department earlier this month to crack down on crime.

Last week, Vice President JD Vance visited soldiers guarding the station.

Biden Migrants Linked To New York Crime Surge,
Study Shows

(Wash Times) — The illegal immigrants who streamed into New York City over the past four years led to increases in crime near the hotels where they were housed, according to a new academic study that lends some credence to President Trump’s claims of a Biden migrant crime surge.

William LeRoy, an incoming professor at Charles University in Prague, crunched crime report data and found that arrests of Hispanics, the dominant demographic of the largely Venezuelan newcomers, rose in the immediate areas around the hotels.

The significant increase was in lower-level thefts.

“The baseline increase in Hispanic arrest rates is driven primarily by cash-generating offenses, such as petit and grand larceny, indicating that economic hardship is a leading factor behind criminal behavior,” Mr. LeRoy concluded.

NY Times Faces Growing Backlash For
‘Petty And Misguided’ Article About Riley Gaines

(Amer Wire News) — The New York Times is facing growing backlash for writing a “petty and misguided” article about women’s rights activist Riley Gaines.

To the right, Gaines is a bright young lady fighting tooth and nail on behalf of all the girls/women across the country who have been pressured to compete against what are essentially boys/men in dresses.

Men like Lia Thomas, the giant former college athlete who began competing against female college swimmers, including Gaines, after supposedly “transitioning” into another gender.

But to the left, Gaines is something else altogether, as evidenced by the Times’ widely panned attempt to profile her:

“The article about Riley Gaines in the NYT is illustrative of the vast divide between everyday Americans who simply believe in biological reality and a media machine still pushing a narrative,” fellow women’s rights activist Jennifer Sey told the Daily Mail in an exclusive interview.

The former president was attending an event for his book, "First Gentleman," a political thriller he co-authored with James Patterson, according to the Post.

Clinton’s health challenges have been public for more than two decades, dating back to his post-White House years.

(Just the News) — The U.S. Coast Guard made a record drug haul this summer, seizing more than 76,000 pounds of illegal narcotics.

The Coast Guard made the historic offload of 76,140 pounds of illicit drugs, valued at $473 million, on Monday in Port Everglades, Fla., according to the military branch. Coast Guard Cutter Hamilton offloaded about 61,740 pounds of cocaine and 14,400 pounds of marijuana.

“Team Hamilton with our partners, worked incredibly hard the last several months to safeguard the American public from the dangers of illicit narcotics entering the United States,” commanding officer of the Hamilton, Capt. John B. McWhite, said.

The contraband was seized through 19 interdiction operations in the international waters of the Eastern Pacific Ocean and Caribbean Sea from June 28 to Aug. 18, according to the Coast Guard.
